BBC — GEL
Simple, functional and well documented, everything you'd expect from the BBC. They have always been one of the leaders in transparency and allowing designers in to their process.
MailChimp's design system is well established, I remember referencing an early version years ago before it became defacto for every company to have one. Robust, unpretentious, go and take a look.
Incredible depth and attention to detail with Shopify's Polaris design system. I really like their section on copywriting, some great tips if you're looking for inspiration here
Microsoft - Fluent
Microsoft's design system uses sensory elements that can be applied beyond flat screens. Still feels like there is a bit of a gap between this and existing products, but there sre some pretty visuals here faw sho.
Nothing fancy or showy to be found here, but one of my favourites. Well thought through, incredibly useable and works fantastically for it's context, which is to present a lot of information in the most readable format.
IBM do a great job providing examples of use with their design system. Less flashy and more functional but nothing wrong wth that.
This one has been kicking around for a while now and it has been interesting to see how it's evolved. Incredibly thorough and well documented, well worth browsing as a reference
Google — Material
Material design is out and is a really interesting design system. I really like the new colour system used here.
Even though I really, REALLY hate jira, Atlassian's design system is solid and well presented. Great detail beyond raw component design that fleshes out the brand's personality.
Air BNB have some fantastic documentation behind their process and are using some cutting edge techniques that are very exciting (if you're a nerd like me). Really want to see more from their react to sketch experiment. Worth keeping up to date with their blog.
Solid — Buzzfeed
Buzzfeed's design system feels a lot like their product. Kinda brash, a bit in your face and full of confidence. It's concise and a great example to reference.
